with xtra long arm

A petition to erect a statue of Tony Bird has gathered pace and plans are believed to be ‘at discussion stage’ for the erection of a monument to ‘the man who changed Stratford upon Avon forever’.

Mister Bird, who single-handedly ‘moved shopping out of Stratford to Leamington Spa, Warwick and surrounding districts’ is said to be dismayed and humbled by the move. A spokesman for ‘For the Birds Enterprises Ltd’ said that ‘the idea was a great honour and he (Mr Bird) could only hope that the statue would carry on the tradition of most of the other Stratford upon Avon Statues, i.e. one arm longer than the other or an important bit missing’.
